Weeeeeeeee

I'm not usually a WE TV watcher, but yesterday they had some good movies playing so I kind of got sucked in (as I usually do on Saturday's with TV and movies). Throughout the day they kept showing ads for High School Confidential. This show looks really interesting to me.

I was talking with a co-worker the other day and we got on the topic of how different things are for kids these days. He helps with some high school kids at church and the things they are dealing with - gangs, drugs, stress, etc. - are nothing like what we had to deal with when we grew up.

The biggest thing I can remember is drinking and sex – and that wasn't my issue because I wasn't popular enough to have it as a problem. But other girls in mine and surrounding classes really had this as a problem. In fact one (who later became our Homecoming Queen, but that's another rant all together) found out she was pregnant winter of her sophomore year, intentionally got extremely drunk one night trying to get rid of the baby and in the end had the child who has so many health and mental challenges it was sad. This was maybe the most traumatic thing I had to deal with (I was fairly shelthered, though I did know a lot of death).

I hope people watch this show to get a little insight into the HS world of young women these days. I'm sure I'll learn something. The show premiere's tomorrow (Monday) at 9 p.m. CDT.

I am often surprised by the things my confirmation kids are aware of - and are nonchalant about. Of course, they also have strong opinions about a lot that I never thought of too.
